How is the Cleburne County Library funded?
The Cleburne County Library is funded through a property tax millage. The Cleburne County Library receives a .9 mill tax. Use of that funding is, by state law, restricted to maintenance and operation only and cannot be used for new construction or expansion.
Who Governs the Cleburne County Library?
The Library is governed by the Cleburne County Library Board that consists of five members appointed by the Cleburne County Judge. The Cleburne County Librarian manages day-to-day operations of the Library.
How big is your collection of materials?
The Cleburne County Library houses over 25,000 printed items for adults, over 15,000 printed items for children, and over 4,000 audio/visual materials.
Do you have meeting space available?
We have one large meeting room that is available to the public that must be reserved. We also have three smaller meeting rooms for up to six people.
Who is eligible to get a library card?
Any resident of Cleburne County, owner of property in Cleburne County, or a resident of an adjacent community in surrounding counties is eligible for a library card. Exceptions may be granted for those who work in, but do not live in Cleburne County.
What do I need to get a library card?
To receive a library card, patrons must provide photo identification with a current address. If address information is not current or local, the photo identification must be accompanied by a piece of mail or a utility bill with a current local address.
How old do children have to be to get a library card?
Children must be at least 6 years old to apply for a library card. Children under 10 must be accompanied with a parent or guardian in order to apply for a card.
How much does a library card cost?
The first library card is free. If you lose your card there is a replacement fee of $1, which increases an additional dollar each time your card is replaced.
How many items can I check out?
The first time you use your library card you are limited to two items. Upon the return of your initial two items, you are allowed up to 10 items on your card. Only four of those items can be audio/visual materials.
How long can I keep library materials?
Material is checked out for a two-week period.
Can I renew the material I have checked out?
Items can be renewed for two additional check-out periods. You can renew by phone or in person. Online renewal is currently not available, but we hope to add that capability in the future. Items borrowed through interlibrary loan cannot be renewed.
What if you do not have an item I need?
If you are a patron in good standing, we can borrow books through interlibrary loan at no cost. If the item you are requesting is checked out; we can place a reserve on the item and we will contact you when the item is available.
Do you offer internet to the public?
We currently have twelve public internet computers available to the public. We also have two additional computers that are available for children's use only. We also offer wireless internet access.
Who can use the internet?
Anyone with a library card can have access to the internet. Anyone under 18 must have a parent sign an internet access form before they are allowed to use the internet. Visitors to the community can be issued a 30-day internet pass in lieu of a library card.
How much does it cost to use the internet?
Internet access and use of the computer is free. There is a 10 cent per page fee for printing.
